Reinventing the future of car seat
FORVIA and the Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB developed the world premiere of a seat structure made from fossil-free steel. A groundbreaking achievement that marks a stride towards sustainable innovation, implementing FORVIA’s objective to reduce CO₂ emissions of its supply chain by 45% in 2030.
Green steel: towards the decarbonization of the automotive industry
A new step towards carbon neutrality
This unique seat structure has a very low carbon footprint. Compared to a traditional seat structure, CO₂ emissions have been reduced by 90% during the production process.
Forge from iron ore, free from fossil fuels
The steel springs from the HYBRIT pilot plant in Luleå, where iron ore is reduced with hydrogen and fossil-free electricity instead of coking coal and other fossil fuels traditionally used.
Pioneering green steel seats
Our avant-garde prototype positions us as the trailblazer in using European green steel for our seats, with full-scale integration projected for 2026.
