Powering hydrogen storage, enabling the rise of a hydrogen ecosystem

Our conviction: hydrogen is essential to effectively decarbonizing the economy and addressing the challenges of sustainable mobility. This makes solutions that support hydrogen infrastructure—like our storage tanks and systems—more critical than ever.

Storage solutions for mobility

Vehicles equipped with FORVIA’s tanks are already on the road. Our comprehensive portfolio includes Type III and IV tanks, certified for mobility use. They are available in various sizes (from S to XL) and pressure levels to meet diverse client needs. Powertrain-agnostic, our storage solutions are suitable for both fuel cell electric vehicles and hydrogen internal combustion engines.

Containerized solutions for transport & distribution

Our solutions go beyond the automotive industry to support hydrogen’s transportation and distribution. Thanks to our high-pressure carbon fiber composite tanks and system expertise, we’re providing tanks for containerized solutions (including MEGCs - Multiple Element Gas Containers), for distribution to both stationary infrastructure and mobile containers transported by truck for refueling.

Hydrogen storage: the key to hydrogen mobility

Function 1

Optimizing hydrogen storage

High-energy potential unlocked

Tanks can withstand different pressures. The most common pressures for mobility applications are 350 bar and 700 bar, depending on the needs of the vehicle. Tanks must therefore combine high-pressure resistance with lightness, safety compliance, and efficient energy storage. As they store energy onboard, hydrogen tanks also help maximize journeys and improve vehicle autonomy. Depending on the tank size, they enable a range of 400 to 1,000 km.

Function 2

Versatile hydrogen tanks

Scalability and technological versatility for mobility

FORVIA’s hydrogen tanks offer high versatility to meet diverse mobility needs. With 33 certified containers and 10 in development, and sizes ranging from S to XL, they adapt easily to vehicle packaging constraints. Tank configurations—vertical, horizontal, or multi-cavity—can be tailored to each fleet’s space and use. Compatible with both H₂ ICE and FCEVs, they enable a truly “powertrain-agnostic” hydrogen solution.

Function 3

Last-mile hydrogen delivery

Flexible hydrogen supply

Unlike pipeline or tube trailer distribution, the MEGC-based solution developed by FORVIA represents the final link in the hydrogen supply chain, connecting directly with the end user through last-mile delivery.

Our industry-leading expertise

A bold leader in sustainability

FORVIA is committed to making its hydrogen operations more responsible, especially as it develops the next generation of storage tanks. By using recyclable thermoplastics and low CO₂ emission carbon fibers, the Group plays a key role in advancing sustainability. As an example, FORVIA is an active member of an innovation ecosystem aiming to develop solutions to reduce the impact of carbon fiber.

More affordable hydrogen mobility

At FORVIA’s Allenjoie plant in France, large-scale industrialisation and the use of second-generation production processes have helped reduce production costs by 80%.

Building an hydrogen ecosystem

Symbio, powering hydrogen mobility

Hydrogen power for clean mobility

Symbio, a joint venture by FORVIA, Michelin and Stellantis, is driving hydrogen mobility with cutting-edge fuel cell systems, supporting the shift to zero-emission transport across various vehicle segments.

H2 Energy: A partner to develop hydrogen transport

Strengthening hydrogen infrastructures together

H2 Energy is a Swiss private company active across the entire hydrogen value chain. As part of the partnership, FORVIA will supply H2 Energy with type III composite tanks for MEGCs. The goal: strengthen hydrogen infrastructure and support the development of tomorrow’s mobility solutions.
